CHUPACABRA - MOCA VAMPIRE
chupacabra are from wuppertal, germany, founded back in 2018 with members of fritzl kids, nerv, auslaufmodell and pestchords. they play a darker punk sound, some kind of deathrock and post punk combined with vocals that have that spit out quality from early england oi bands. it’s a wild combination of different genres that won’t fit in only one box. their initial idea was to found a band that sounds like sect and that’s the result of all this individual talent doing that!
“moca vampire” is their first lp, recorded in 2024 and released in 2025 by bomb all records, wildsau records, orleone records and mist music records. nine songs of darkness that dig deep into what’s rotting at the core of modern life.
the lyrics are relentless. the title track opens with religious mockery - pray to a tortured jesus, clutch at the holy bible - while bloodsucking bastards smell fresh tasty goats. it sets the tone for an album that sees through all the comforting illusions. “new era” attacks the dawn of selfishness and greed, where people love their phones more than each other, stuck in rabbit holes while the planet bleeds and warcrimes mount. there’s no escape in the shiny resignation of “city,” where life is muzzled in consume halls with police control at every corner - you’re a rabbit on a railroad track with no exit.
the class anger explodes in “rampage,” where those stuck in their roles chasing scum living on the dole finally set fire to the streets and take what they need. “death cult” exposes the religion of economy - believe in growth, be efficient, worship the market while animals die and climate changes, your god is called greed. “borderline” captures the depression, dark clouds rising, hate for people and their shit, looking for violence and fun because that’s all left.
the chupacabra, for those who don’t know, is a legendary creature from latin american folklore - a goat-sucking monster that appears in rural areas at night, leaving animals with two puncture wounds on their throats. some say it’s an alien, some say a mutated coyote, some say the government created it to scare people. but really it’s just what happens when you look closely at the shadows and realize something is feeding on your livestock while you sleep. chupacabra named themselves after this because that’s exactly what they see in modern society: creatures living in the shadows, driven by endless hunger, bloodstealing monsters that are who we really are.
